NEW HAVEN POLICE MAKE ARRESTS IN THREE INCIDENTS
(10/26/2007) NEW HAVEN- Late yesterday evening, 26-year-old Richard Massenburg turned himself into the custody of New Haven Police responding to a warrant for his arrest following his theft of a New Haven Police vehicle on September 29. Massenburg was charged with 3 counts of assault on a police officer, reckless driving, evading responsibility, operating under suspension, larceny in the 1st degree, 2 counts of criminal attempt of assault on a police officer, criminal trover and reckless endangerment.
New Haven Police arrested 23-year-old Jose Avila of 117 Truman Street in New Haven Thursday night. During the course of an investigation, Avila was found to be in possession of approximately 16 grams of cocaine, several grams of marijuana and over $11,000 in cash. Further, Avila was arrested for several narcotic related charges.
This morning, an officer on duty in the area of the Farnum Court Housing development reported hearing gunshots. As he began surveying the area, the occupant of a vehicle pulling out of a parking spot at the end of Franklin Street, fled from the vehicle by foot. Officers gave chase and subsequently apprehended 24-year-old Romel Talton who stated he is a resident of North Carolina. Talton was arrested for numerous charges including narcotic offenses. Officers also located a .32 caliber handgun on Talton’s path believed to belong to him. The firearms unit of the Investigative Services Division will continue to investigate this case.
